In July 2019, The Standard London officially became the first Standard hotel outside of the US. As you have come to expect from the Standard brand, this is a cool property. Last October, I was lucky enough to stay in one of its 226 sexy rooms. Let’s take a look shall we…

After my long flight across the pond on Virgin Airlines, I arrived at the Standard London around 9 in the evening. After a quick check in I was on my way to a King Standard room. (Thanks for the upgrade guys!)

As soon as you enter the room, you are greeted with the bright colors and decor that the Standard brand has become known for. There are a lot of cool things about this room, but we’ll start with the bathroom. I loved the rain shower and the fact that the toilet is located in a separate room with a door that closes. I need my privacy so I can spend 45 minutes looking at memes and not be disturbed. Mrs ‘Parblems’ favorite part of the bathroom? The hair dryer!! I’ve never seen her so excited about a hair dryer in my life. Ladies (and gentlemen with long hair), feel free to leave yours at home. Save room in the carry on for all the Cadbury you’ll get at duty free!

Once you’re done exploring the bathroom, turn left and take in the view of the rest of your amazing room! A large King bed for you to sprawl out on, your table for enjoying room service, playing card games, drinking games or whatever else you would like to use it for..I don’t judge. There’s a comfortable couch up against the cruise ship inspired bay windows . Not that I’ve ever been on a cruise ship, but I’ve seen a few in the movies

Before we go any further, we really need to discuss this mini bar. I’ve never seen a mini bar at a hotel with this many accessories. They REALLY want you to party…so why fight it? Have you ever seen “fun size” liquor bottles? Well I hadn’t either until I opened that drawer. Mine was stocked with perfectly sized bottles of Patron, Johnny Walker Black, Grey Goose, and Bombay Sapphire. Open up the next drawer and you’ll find your “mini” bartender setup. (See what I did there?) Cutting board, glasses, shaker and a knife to cut your limes/lemons. Who throws a better hotel room party than you? No one, that’s who.

After all that mixology and party hosting, you’re gonna need a good night’s sleep. Waiting for you just around the corner is a beautiful king size bed. The way this bed is designed and perfectly made makes you almost not want to sleep on it, but I can assure you it’s worth it. I don’t know if it was the jetlag, (or maybe the Patron), but I slept like a baby on this one.

After a long restful sleep, it was time to get  up and enjoy the views of London! Directly across the street from The Standard London is the beautiful St. Pancras Building, which is home to Platform 9 3/4 of Harry Potter Fame so you can make your way to Hogwarts. That’s where the train goes right? I don’t know, I’ve never seen Harry Potter. (Don’t judge me). Also across the street is King’s Cross/St. Pancras underground station which also is a hub for the national rail, my transport of choice to Scotland and the historic Gleneagles Hotel (blog post coming soon!)

Duck Hash, fruit salad and views of St. Pancras. What a way to start the day

When you come for your visit, be sure to check out the restaurants. This was a quick stopover for me, but I did walk through the space and talk about vibrant! Live music in one space, DJ in the next, a bustling scene everywhere. Looking forward to checking these out next time I return. Overall the Standard, London will deliver exactly what you have come to expect from the brand. It’s hip, cool and trendy and just so happens to be in a fantastic location. Even if it’s just for dinner or drinks, be sure to stop in to The Standard, London as soon as you can!!
