When I pulled up to the gates of this property, two words came to mind..Jurassic Park. Not just because of the large wooden gates, but you just know that something special is waiting for you once you enter. Once you get through the gates, you will take the 3 mile drive to the entrance of the resort. Along the way, you’ll drive through a forest of palm trees, pass an 18-hole golf course, running trail, and if you’re lucky like me you’ll see some of the local wildlife. You can see anything from armadillos to foxes!
Once you arrive to the reception area, you will be greeted with a welcome drink of fruit juice or a classic margarita. Guess which one I went with… You are taken to Altamira which has a stunning view of the property overlooking the infinity pool all the way down to the beach. This is a great place to grab a cocktail and take in the sunset.
After checking in, you will be escorted to your room. We were given a ride on the many golf carts you’ll see at the resort. I sat in the back. With my margarita. Did. Not. Spill. A, Drop.
Once you are in the room, your butler will give you the grand tour. That’s right, I said butler! St Regis is renowned for it’s curated butler service which is included in the price of your room. Anything from coffee & tea service to bringing your water shoes to the beach when you forget them (me), your butler is at your service 24/7
The rooms at the St. Regis Punta Mita are spacious, bright and very comfortable. When you enter, you will find your large king size bed to sprawl out on after a long day at the beach. I took many an afternoon nap here. On top of being large, the bed is very comfortable. I prefer a softer mattress and I had no issues sleeping on this one. Once you’re done checking out the bed, take a step out onto the balcony which overlooks the adult pool with incredible views of the ocean. A great spot to enjoy the gorgeous sunsets with a cocktail.
I am also in love with these bathrooms! As you know, I am a fan of the separate room for the toilet. But the St. Regis Punta Mita outdid themselves and gave me an outdoor shower! I didn’t even know how much of a fan of these I was until this trip 🙂
Now on to the really important stuff, because you didn’t come to Mexico to sit in your room. The first thing to know about the beach here is that it is VERY rocky, water shoes are a MUST. You’ll be fine walking around the beach, but if you plan on getting in the water you’ll definitely need them. Also, pay attention to the tide. We found that the best time to swim was in the morning when the tide was high. By lunchtime/early afternoon, the tide goes way out and you can see the ocean floor. Not kidding. It’s so low that you can walk all the way out to a rock formation that’s about 1/2 mile off shore. I made it most of the way there and was able to see a few stingrays, puffer fish and more hermit crabs than you can count.
While relaxing on the beach, you can get margaritas, tacos and even have your sunglasses cleaned without leaving your beach chair. But more on the food and drink in a later post 😉 Overall, the St. Regis Punta Mita is a truly 5 star experience that you will regret having to leave on check out day. Put this one on your list for a beautiful warm weather vacation. You gotta go!
