Ok, so now you know where to eat, but you didn’t go on vacation JUST to eat! Well maybe…but you’ll probably want to spend some time at the beach. Seven Mile Beach is perfect. It truly is one of the best beaches I have ever been to. Pristine white sand that stretches..well..for miles! The water is calm and shallow enough upon entry for novice swimmers and children. It also gets deep enough as you venture out for water sports, and my favorite, snorkeling!
Seven Mile Beach is located on the western side of the island where some of the best resorts have made their home. Our favorite place to stay has been the Westin Grand Cayman. Great service, comfortable beds, and perfect location! However, no matter what resort you choose, if it sits on Seven Mile Beach you’re in a great spot. The best part is that the stretch of beach in front of your hotel is reserved for hotel guests only. There are signs lining the beach and this is enforced by the staff. You can rest assured that you won’t be bothered by vendors and can relax in peace.
If you are looking for a great excursion while you’re in Grand Cayman, look no further than Stingray City! Stingray city is a group of sandbars located about 25 miles off the coast of Grand Cayman. The Stingrays gather here and due to the low depth (about 3 feet) of the water, you can get up close and personal! Legend has it that fishermen gathered here to clean their catch before heading back to shore. The stingrays got accustomed to the free food, and also interacting with humans.
My tour started at the Westin Grand Cayman where Red Sail Sports has their post right on the beach! You sign up, schedule your time, and jump on the shuttle to your boat right in front of the hotel. Once on board, you’ll get your instructions on how to interact with the Stingray so you don’t harm them or yourself! On the way back, purchase your pictures and help yourself to a tropical cocktail. All billable back to your room.
Stingray City is truly a memorable experience which you should not miss on your trip to Grand Cayman!
As a child of Caribbean parents, I have visited many many islands in my lifetime. However, Grand Cayman has quickly made it’s way to the top of the list of favorites! The beach is spectacular, there is great cuisine all over the island, and it is also very safe. You will feel comfortable walking around and will not be disturbed on the beach when you are enjoying your much deserved relaxation. When you are ready for you next island vacation, Grand Cayman should be the first place you look. You won’t be disappointed!
